for my 36 gallon Do I need one wavemaker or 2????

If 2 they should be placed on opposite sides facing up?

i am thinking to get 800 GPH each, would that be fine?

Are you referring to power heads or wavemakers. A wavemaker strip can control 3 or 4 powerheads.

You always want 2 powerheads facinig each other or pointing in a X pattern to create the chaotic water flow found on a reef.

You want total water movement of 10x - 20x of tank volume.
