Ive had one for about two years now, how long do they last, I'm starting to notice small traces of algae in my tank, is there a way to check these???

You should check your owner's manual and see what the life expectancy is of the uv bulb in your sterilizer.

About 6 months I'm pretty sure.

If most last for 6 months and you've had yours for 2 years, i'd say it's time to change the bulb
. Does your sterilizer have some sort of light indicator to let you know it's working? Hopefully it needs just a bulb replacement and the sterilizer itself hasn't died.
