I have had a number of aquaclears before, and they've all been more or less silent except for the sound of the outflow hitting the tank water - telling me I needed to top off the tank. The AC300 I got from a garage sale is horribly noisy, it works great, just the noise drives me crazy. It sounds like its coming from the motor. Anything I can do?

Yeah, i'd pull the motor and impeller. my guess is there's a bit of sand or debris inside the impeller housing.

Running an AQ dry (probably what the previous owner did) can cause the hole in the motor where the impellor spins (don't know the name) to get oval-shaped, causing the impeller to wobble inside. Also, is there a "stick" thing holding the impellor in place? Sometimes those can go missing & cause noise.
