AC50 fitting additional media

Hi all,
I am currently running an AC50 and whisper 10i concurrently in a 29 gallon tank (three months old). The AC50 is designed for 3 media levels and I currently have a sponge, carbon and biomax bag in it. I noticed there is still a bit of space up top and managed to comfortably fit a second biomax bag on top hoping this will effectively expand the surface area for the BB. Does anyone feel that this may do more harm than good? The flow rate does not appear to be affected or restricted at all.

You did the right thing with extra bio-max. It's usually too loosely packed to adversely affect flow.

The carbon is pretty worthless. Seachem Purigen is far superior for chemical filtration.
