Adding a new filter

Hi all, next weekend I am purchasing the Marisys 240 protein skimmer/filter marisys.php
im planning to take my original filter out for more room, but I have a question on how to go installing it since I already have fish in my tank. Will I need to run water from my tank thought my skimmer before conecting it? or use whats in my current filter in it?
i have a salt water tank
any replies would be appreciated

Do you currently have live rock in the tank? If so, you should be fine just adding the skimmer and removing the old filter. If not, or if you just want added insurance, you can remove the media from the old filter and place it in the new one, it should just be a sponge or piece of foam of some sort. Hope this helps.
