Anyone have an octopus hob skimmer?

I recently purchased a bh-100f protein skimmer and have a few questions. The pump chamber the water doesn't completely cover the pumps casing there is about s quarter inch of it sticking above it, though the max water line is way above it.. is there anyway to adjust it for thickness of skim? So far its been running only two days but I see nothing in regards to it filling the cup. Anyone e have a similar hob skimmer that can lend some help?

I'm looking to get one. But as far as it not getting much skimate protein skimmers go through a break in period.

That im aware of. Bit not sure id I can tune it like in sump skimmers
