Anyone try a SunSun 301 or 501 w/ Surface Skimmer?

Thinking of trying one of these HOB's to work alongside a Fluval C2 HOB. Particularly for the surface skimming role since my tank will be a topless, rimless tank. I read somewhere you can plug up the bottom intake so all the suction/inflow is focused on the surface skimmer extension. Anyone use this?

I have (I think, I forget lol) the 501, although I haven't done this, it makes sense. I am subscribed to see what everyone is doing.

I've actually been using it for over two weeks now since I started my build. I'm quite happy with it as it keeps the surface clear of any protein layer and scum.
