No. These are not rare to find at all. It is very useful. But 1 issue, green water usually effects ponds, not aquariums. So i believe thats for ponds.
 
Ehhhh, I don't use a UV....You have to realize it will only kill what goes through it and IMO it's not a cure-all. There are folks that do use them and love them, it's just a personal preference.
PWCs work wonders.
 
I agree with Roka. You have to remember that it will kill indiscriminately. It will take out the good just like it will the bad.
 
True, there was just this guy who was big on UV units and he kept telling me I have to get one if I want a healthy tank. Kinda neat the way it's a UV in a powerhead, but if it's pretty useless I'll pass. Partial water changes and my skimmer should do just fine.

Honestly, I don't know of many people running UV. They have their place, but it's usually not in home aquaria.
 
As i said. They are usually made for ponds because of the green water issues.
