Aqua lifter dosing pump

Hello,
Ok do here's a dumb question, being that I come from the freshwater side of things, and new to saltwater, I added a check valve on the out tubing from the aqua lifter for ATO, ( thinking air line for freshwater) and noticed that water is still in the tubing line coming in to the pump and also the out tubing, is this normal or am I missing something here?

I have one but have not hooked it up yet. It looks like in you picture your line is level or leaning towards outflow. How would the back flow stop water that is not trying to back flow? Unless I'm missing something

Good point Supra, but when i turn off power to water pump etc.. to feed water rise and tubing is now inside water (salted water). Dont want that water siphoning back into the ATO.
