aquaclear 110

I have been using aquaclear filters for years. I just purchased a 110 to upgrade my 70. The 110 came with this round black piece that fits around intake tube. I don't know the purpose of it. I put it on but it makes no sense. Anyone know what it is for?

Plastic or rubber? Could it be the intake tube adaptor? (seen here):

That might be it. It is a plastic ring that fits on my intake tube. I have it on the tube inside the tank. From the picture it looks like it goes inside filter. Do you know if that is right and the purpose of it?

Sounds like that is what it is....to be fair, I have not purchased a 110 since they stopped being AC500s, so I am not certain, but will have a look in a box when I am down at the shop tomorrow.
