Aquaclear Impeller

Is this normal? After a water change my AquaClear filter started to make a rattling sound like there was a grain of sand inside, so I took it out to clean and I noticed that the white cap on the impeller it's moving freely, which I don't recall being this way when I first got it, please let me know if this is normal or the impeller needs to be replace.

Impeller looks fine on the outside, they all do that. Check the shaft for wear, and the inside of the impeller should be round, just large enough to fit over shaft.
