Are you positive it wasn't just tired/resting? I've never lost a single fish from leaving them for less than a week, let alone a weekend. It could also be a parasite problem or something....

This is likely the issue. My JD along with many other of my fish "rest" on the bottom of the tank when the lights are off.

Well, if you really need an automatic feeder, this is what we use in the aquaculture research center at my university.

Eheim Digital Automatic Feeder

Yup that might be true. I've a connected tanks . the one in the onlit one was sitting at the bottom.

Then it probably was just "sleeping", and took a little time to wake up. That's my guess, anyway.
