What way is the best to put a background on with?

A plastic background? Mineral oil or plain old scotch tape works well. Another option is painting a background on the outside glass.

If you use a vinyl background tuck the top edge under the top plastic band on the tank. It will help prevent water from getting between the background, and the tank.
