I'm looking to buy a better filter for my 40g tank, in the price range of about $60-$100 (canadian).
Right now I have an aqua clear 300 and an a mini on it.

Any suggestions?

What's wrong with the AC 300 and AC Mini?

I'm running a Penguin 170 and AC Mini on my 30g and they work great.

Are you looking to get a canister filter instead of an HOB?

A single Penguin 330 will take care of a 40 gallon fine. You can use an Emperor model if you want (280 or 400, both are 'better' than 330s), but unless you're quite a bit overstocked it won't make a difference.

Well, I'm thinking of setting up another tank proabaly a 20-30 gallon and I'd put the ac300 on it and have the mini for my QT.

Its the tank only has 2 goldies in it, soon to have 3 corys but thats about all...

go for the 330 suggested by ferret they are 20.00 us with media and biowheel at fosters and smith

I have 2 330's on my 55gal they work great.
I also run a Fluval 404 canister filter on it.
A great set up for crystal clear water.
