Best power filter?

Anyone know of a great power filter?

I use aquaclear hob's and eheim canisters.

Aqua Clear line of HOB power filter are the best IMO/E.

Get it one size bigger than what your tank is (ie 29g tank, get an AC50).

What about Fluval C-Series Power Filters? Anyone used them? I was looking at them and I can't figure out which size I need, none of the sites said. Also, do you have to use the carbon inserts or can I use something different in place of them.

I'm not a fan of cartridge based filtration system, so I couldn't say. I had an Aqueon a few years back and I spent more on just the cartridges in a year, than what my AC50 cost me retail.

I like Aquaclears, Eheims, Renas. I also have a Marineland which is a nice unit as well. All the top manufacturers produce a quality product.

From my understanding, the fluval c series doesnt either. It looks VERY similar to the aquaclear line (same parent company.. go figure). I dont think you'll go wrong with either.

Oh, yep I guess the pic just made it look like that red thing was a cartridge . I'd still get a AC if it were me.

Isn't there a bag of carbon in ac and fluval? Don't you have to replace that like every month?

Yes but you do not have to use it, In most cases there is no reason to run carbon.

Agreed, save it for when you need to clean up meds from the tank. I'd suggest using poly-fil where the carbon would go.

Yep, that's the name, poly-fil. I use "Fairfield" brand and know it's safe. Just make sure that's there's no fire retardants, mildew reducers, etc.
