if i get a hob filter it will be AC 500 for my 55 gal tank. But i have been looking at the fluval canister filter. If i was to get it what else would i need?? do u need a sump or a powerhead??

cool

so can a rena canister take care of all my filtration or should i have an hob also

That would depend on your needs. You want a gph rating 6-10 times the volume of water in the tank (330-550 gph). I would probably use both if I had a tank 55 gallons or bigger, but I have a tank of African Cichlids. Right now I have a just have a little filstar xp1 on my 30 gallon, and it's great.
