i bought some activated carbon and a few media bags to use in my sump im building while at the not so local fish store (hour and 15 min drive). i took some and put it in my hob filter. is that a good idea? im sure it wont hurt anything

Is the HOB on your SW tank? I consider carbon on a FW tank a waste unless you're cleaning out meds. If you want to clear the water (or whatever), I'd suggest using poly-fil (Fairfield brand) and save the high priced carbon.
