Changing Filters?

I have a Bio-wheel HOB on my 30g right now and want to replace it with a canister type. Should I start up the canister and let it run in conjunction with the HOB for awhile or just yank the HOB and start up the canister?

Keep them both going for awhile. That will help seed the new one.

Like x-ray said leave the old one on and it will grow bacteria on the new one in about 1-2 months remove the old one and monitor your water parameters closely, all should be ok.
