cheap mag drive upgrade?

what if you just replaced a 9.5 impeller with a 12 impeller?
are the impeller sizes the same
i upgraded my maxi jet by putting a 1200 impeller in a 900 impeller chamber
works great

That's a really great question. I wonder if it would be able to handle it tho,( certainly the 12 has larger mag coil...)

Got me wondering about putting a 18 on my 12

Yep, I emailed the company last night regarding the 1800 impeller in the 1200 pump, this was there reply,

"It will work. You will not get all the flow of an 1800 due to a stronger
motor being used on the 1800, but you will get about 15-1600 [acronym:b2a7d78c0b="Gallons per hour"]gph[/acronym:b2a7d78c0b] out of it.

That's great information. I'd like a little more flow out of my 12. This sounds like the perfect compromise!

The mags I have dealt with get really noisy when they have a "load" on them. You may be asking for a nightmare.

From what I have read, the Mags are great pumps except for the 36. I have 2 Mag5's and a Mag7.

I did replace the Mag5 impellar with a Mag7 and it did increase flow. The impeller is not perfect though. With the housing screwed back on, it rattles a bit. Not sure why. I only put one screw back in it and it is running my [acronym:9d22ef2269="Broken or cut pieces of coral which will eventually grow into a new animal"]frag[/acronym:9d22ef2269] tank with no noise. It is submersed of course.

Can be done though. I am not sure about the bigger Mags though. Try it and find out. The impellars are usually around $10
