check valves (one way valves)?

you normaly see these for air pumps but can you get them for canisters or do self priming (pump priming) canisters have them built in?
 
The last canister I had a fluval 404 had a built in check valve but I've never actually known of a hose sized check valve.

Just pull the hose out the water till your done or bend the hose into a u shape and aim it back into the tank close the cover on it to hold it there untill your done doing whatever your doing
 
If you are wanting to hold the pressure of an open bottom tank, I don't think a check valve would do that. Sounds more like some PVC work to me.
