Had my aquarium for a little over a year and had the power go out for 12 hours one night this week :(

I have a heavily overstocked tank after 8 hours started getting nervous, but followed online suggestions and didn't feed the fish, cleaned my canister, and agitated the water. My room temp was ok and fortunately had no losses.

But it made me think that I should have a better back up plan. So what does everyone do? Any inexpensive ideas for heating or filtration? Or should I just suck it up and get a generator? :)

I would always have a battery powered air pump on hand to make a simple DIY sponge filter. or a generator works too :)
