CPR Overflow Opinions please

I have 2 (55gallon) tanks, each of which has a CPR Overflow box on it. In the span of the past two weeks both boxes have failed and one has failed twice. Is there some secret to making these things work?

I don't know what causes the boxes to stop draining - they just stop... Twice I have come home and found the floor full of water. Pumps still running and snails on the outside of the glass!

Once I happened to be standing there when I noticed the water rising over the edge of the tank so I was able to avoid the flood that time.

Does anyone know anything about these boxes in general or about the "CS90" Model in particular... It is called a "Continuous Siphon Overflow" - but apparently that is something of a misnomer!
Ha!
