Diatom filters are they worth it ?

I was just wandering if anybody here uses a diatom filters for water polishing in FW aquariums. I have read that they can even remove Ich. Any info would be appreciated. TIA

Never tested the ich claim, but they are brilliant at water-polishing....but...a pain to run and clean versus a Magnum HOT with a micron filter cartridge.

I run a diatom weekly for 30-60 minutes on each of my tanks. They do an exceptional job at removing particles up to one micron. I wouldn't use it as a cure for ich because that parasite is attached to the fish.

Toirtis is correct about it being a pain to set up, but once you do it often enough, it's worth the effort. JMO
