Eheim 2227

I have a 2227 wet/dry filter. i have used it off and on on test tanks, mixing water and other odd jobs, and it worked like a charm. I recently sat up a 60 gallon hex FOWLR and put it to use on there. Thought it would make some waves. but for some reason, it just blows water all the time??? It never empties and waits to refill the empty and so on. Any ideas as to why it is not performing as it should
