In the manual for the Ehiem Pro3 range of canister filters it states that the filter media should be partially replaced after every 3rd to 4th cleaning. When i went to purchase replacement media from my lfs the girl there said that the filter media never needs replacing. It requires cleaning of course but the actual media itself doesnt deteriorate. This is good because replacing it is expensive and makes sense too. What do you reckon?

Your local lfs is correct...you do need to clean your filter parts in tank water and unless it is falling apart, you can reuse.
