Would an Emperor 280 filter be appropriate for a 29 gallon tank, either with plastic or live plants? Thanks.

If it's sw ditch the bio wheel. You won't need it. But don't throw it away. Just don't use it on sw.

Biological filters, by and large, don't get rid of nitrates.
Plants and water changes do. I am still not sure if I understand you. Jeff

Just curious.
What's the logic of ditching the biowheel on an sw setup.
Do you still retain the inserts.
Of is it just for flow.
They're nice filters, but are they ever noisy bastards. Jeff

The 280 has been working out just fine on my 29 gal. Mine is as quiet as can be. Is yours noisy due to water returning to the tank or is the noise coming from the impeller?

Put my 50 dollars of Canadian where my mouth was and purchased another Emperor 400 to go beside the other one on my 55 gallon cichlid. I thought the water flow would be too high but this hasn't yet been a problem. The mini-rockery probably doesn't hurt either. The new Emperor, however, is significantly louder than the old one. Hopefully it will quiet down, but there must be a huge production variances between them. Jeff

i use the same filter i have ni nitrate or nititr problem what so ever?
why would the bio wheel create more nitrites?
