For Discus, that would be a great place to start and you should probably buy a second filter as well. The second filter does not have to be another Emperor 400, but Discus need very clean water and can generate a lot of waste so the second filter helps a lot.

an emp 400 is a great filter
im running one along with a rena XP3 on my 90 gallon ray tank (overkill i know) but rays like their water clean!
this is the some thing with discuss. im not telling you to go and buy an xp3 but you may want to look into getting a small canister filter to be your main filtration.
look into the xp1. you may find it to be jsut what you're looking for
