External skimmer?

Unfortunately for now I have to run a canister filter on my 36 gallon reef which has to be broken down atleast once a week. I often see skimmers placed in the sump which I obviously don't have. is there any skimmer that I could run pumps to and from, or have the return from my canister be plumbed Into the skimmer and then use a return pump to get water back into the display?
due to the positioning of my tank a hang on back is not an option.

Yes, you can buy an external skimmer. Unfortunately, all of the external skimmers I have seen were for larger tanks. How about a HOB skimmer?

+1 on HOB skimmers. I'm starting a 30 gallon bow front saltwater and was looking into Reef octopus HOB BH-100 skimmer & aquaC remora. Do the research on both i think Im gonna get the BH-100
