Filter change....

Do I really need to change the filter every 2 weeks? Marineland 280 pro series. Says every 2-4 weeks. People tell me know. Some say once a month. Some have told me they haven't changed it in a year. Others have said they washed it in tank water in a bucket and replaced.

Your thoughts?

No, you don't need to change the filter media. Unless its carbon, but I don't really see the point of doing that as its not very necessary unless you want to get a disease out of your tank.
All you have to do is that when they get the gunk and crud on them, during your PWC when you change out your water, swish it in a bucket of old tank water and you'll be good to go
