filter help

Hi, need advice my filter has stopped working the pump is broken, how long will my media be ok its still in the filter house which is connected to my tank and is there anything i need to watch for when switching it back on. Any help would be appreciated as I'm concerned for my fish.
My husband is getting an new pump so the time it's switched off will be around 3 hrs.
