filter intake location
Simple (I think !) question: Should the filter intake be located low (closer to bottom), middle, or high (closer to water surface), or does it not matter at all?

IMO it's not going to matter much as long as you have good circulation. Most intakes are at least 14" long anyways which places them more towards the bottom in most tanks.

Thanks...it happens to be a small tank, with an Aqua Clear hang-on power filter. So, the choice is whether to attach an extender, extra intake tube.

I have mine situated on ours at a mid level this allows the stuff to get picked up that would other wise settle behind the rock work ... aslong as you have good water flow as Tec said the filter should pick up most stuff and you should be fine
