Hi Peeps. this is my first post! lol I hope it's in the right place. Anywho, I've been doing alot of reading and it seems that more people then others dont use chemical (carbon ,purigen, ect. ) in there filters. Just str8 Bio & mechanical. My current setup is 75 gal freshwater and xp3 filter. In my bottom tray I have coarse sponge and then ver fine sponge. in tray 2 i have purigen and nitrate/nitrite remover. and in the top tray ceramic noodles ans bio stars. I am considering changing to bottom tray coarse and fine sponge then bio bale in the middle and top trays. That way when i need to clean the biobale im only loosing half me biomedia. so i would not be using any sort of chemical what soever. My thought is that the stuff the purigen is absorbing is what the bio media feeds off of there fore it is taking away from the bio media. thanks for your advice
