For those of you guys that use Emperor 400, if you should change the media, do you generally buy Marineland cartridges or there is a cheaper DIY technique? if there is, could you pls describe it. thanks

Cheaper in the long run to buy the extra baskets and fill them with what you want. The floss, carbon, and anything else you might want you can buy in bulk. The floss is the undyed cotton floss they sell at wal mart for $2 a bag in the craft center (just make sure its the undyed/untreated stuff).

The floss is cheaper tan that at superpets if you have one near you.
I pay $1.50 a bag.
A box of I think 6 filter pads is almost $10 at Wal-Mart.
