fish and overflow box filter stop the trip to fish heaven

Our Tenecor 150 gallon freshwater has the overflow filter system. Fish are always getting trapped/sucked in here. Would a fishnet material over the teeth be suggested to allow water flow put stop fish taking a ride to filter heaven? Anyone have solutions or suggestions?

Use a thick woven plastic type mesh material to weave in and out through the teeth. It helps.
