floating thermometer

OK, so I broke a floating thermometer in my tank, the exterior glass broke but not the inside with the mercury? Although the little balls that are in there...some of them fell out. Does anyone know what they are or if they are dangerous to the fish? I fished out the broken glass but I can't find the balls that fell out.

thermometers these days dont have mercury in them, just do a quick water change and dont worry, I have broken more then my fair share, and havent lost a fish to it yet
