Flourescent tubes seem 1/2 on??

My flourescent tubes (new t12's) seem 1/2 on 1/2 off. Like they're not completely as bright as they used to be. Could this be my ballast?

It's a cheapie Home Depot ballast that's three years ald and the bulbs are one month old. Connections are good too. Thanks all.

could be the ballast, but first thing I'd do is remove the bulbs, clean the contacts, and reseat it, making sure it's in perfectly.

However, how old is the bulb? normal fluorescents lose something like 40% intensity after 9 months, as well as 60% of their color spectrum. that's why they have to be replaced at least once per year.

My end caps and the tubes are about one mone old (same purchase). I removed and reattached the end caps to make sure I had good contact. I use these lights as pre and post lighting for my MH's.

Half-on/half-off? Like the left side of the bulb isn't lit, or the top half isn't?

If the top half isn't, that's an internal reflector. Hopefully I'm overstepping the intelligence/knowledge boundary by stating this.. but I can never be too sure. (As I had no idea what that was until I was told it had it).

What brand bulbs?

Same thing happened to me and it was the ballast. Nothing that a cool 80.00 couldn`t take care of

lol... schoeplein, one bulb (actinic) has a reflector and yes, I'm aware that light doesn't come from that side .

The bulbs are dimmer than they were. they're both 30W and seem like 10-15W. That's what I'm getting. Seem Like I'm replacing the ballast very soon.
