Fluidized Bed Filter

I just installed a Lifeguard Fluidized bed filter (FB600) on my 55 gallon tank. Here's a link to the one I'm using. http://www.aquaticeco.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/product.detail/iid/7839/cid/1965 I'm using the recommended powerhead, an Aquaclear 301. It seems as if the sand is not really being stirred, and the flow from the filter is little more than a trickle. Just how much flow are these things supposed to have?

check to make sure nothing is blocking the powerhead.
You may have to go with a stonger powerhead as well
