Fluval 204 Question..

I have a 29 gallon tank , 13 community fish , Fluval 204 and my question is... how often should i change the filter media??

and when I do, do i change everything? (foam insert, carbon bags, bio-rings)

thanks for the help in advance.

Monthly. Rinse the foam inserts until they are clean. You can reuse them until they begin to fall apart, then replace them. Change carbon monthly. Never change the bio-rings, and rinse only in water from the same aquarium. Flush the hoses, and clean the plastic tubing.

Check the outlow daily to make sure the current is strong. If it's diminshed, something is clogging the filter and needs to be addressed. You can lessen the likelihood of this by using a prefilter to keep large particles out of the cannister.

When you say flush the hoses, you mean detach them from unit and flush them at the sink? Those little black rubber bands to hold them in place are a b*tch to put back on.. maybe there is an easier way?

You can take the entire motor housing to the sink to run water through it
