fluval nano filter

I got this filter a while back for a 5.5 gal fry tank. about to convert my big tank to salt and want to do the same for the 5.5. it says in the manual that the fluval nano should only be used in fresh. could it really be that bad to use it in salt?

If the company is against it, I would be as well. It may be manufactured using a corrosive metal as the impeller shaft, which would degrade with salt in the water.
