Forceful filter

I just bought a Magnum H.O.T. Hang-on filter for my aquarium. It works very well. But, the outward flow of water is too strong. I put a filter sleeve in front of it to minimize the flow. It seems to work (kind of). Does anyone know any techniques to control strong filters. By the way, This filter is Very Good. It produces amazing results.

Well, i would get the extra attatchment of the bio-wheel. I found that adding the biowheel greatly reduced the flow in which the water was coming out.
