FX5 and Pond Matrix

I currently have two FX 5s on my 350g. The tank is filled with bio rings in the middle all the trays and foam around the outer circle. I'm adding to my bio filtration by purchasing a 3rd fx5 (fx 6) and filling the center of each basket with pond matrix.

Would it be ok to remove the outer foam
Pads and fill that portion of the tray with pond matrix as well?

No keep the foam. Its the part that traps the poop for easier cleaning. Make sure you clean those pads often every month.

2 fx5 would not provide enough flow

Thanks for the info. I set it up today with outer sponges and Pond Matrix. 3 FX5s total.
