I also had a VisiTherm Deluxe stick on. It was about 2 years old. I noticed that there was a lot of condensation on the lid one day, and the betta looked a little agitated. I put my digital thermometer in and the temp. was 85. I floated ice bags in the tank, left the lid open, and unplugged the heater for a few hours. When I plugged it back in again, I checked the temp. every half hour or so and it kept going steadily up. I got a new Stealth heater that day. The betta was mad because he couldn't sit on the suction cups like he did with the Deluxe!

In most cases you can return the heater to the shop at which you purchased it for a replacement....try that first.
