Heater Stuck On

Went to check my tank about an hour ago and found that the heater was stuck on and the temp had risen just above 90 degrees. Well I quickly unplugged it and the temp is slowly coming down.

My question is: Is the heater completely toast or can it be reset somehow?

It's a Visitherm Deluxe that's only a few months old. Unfortunately the warrenty really sucks in that I'm stuck for shipping charges both ways if I send it in for replacement/repair. With the cost of shipping I'd probably be better off just buying a different one.

I'd buy a new one. Otherwise you risk frying your fish.

I wouldn't mess around with it. Get a new one if you can.

Some of them have deadman switches, so if you screw around with it they will typically not function at all. Just get a new one

Look on EBay for a new one. I got a brand new 300watt heater (all-glass) on ebay for 10 bucks.

Okay, that's what I figured. I'll get a new one ordered. Thanks!

In the mean time, make sure your tank is getting enough oxygen, and you might want to to a parial water change with cooler water to speed up the cooling process.

odd, Visi-therms are typically a very very reliable heater. But there's always a few in a batch that get a bad thermostat or switch.

buy one online for sure though...at fostersmith or big al's.

Just checked the tank this morning and the temp is down to normal ranges again. Will check on the inhabitants in an hour or so when the light comes back on. None of the fish were hanging out at the surface gasping for breathe at any time so I think they should all pull through ok. Just have to hope they didn't get stressed too badly by the temp fluctuation.

I'm going to get a replacement from BigAlsOnline. That way I can switch to the stealth model and it'll only be a couple of dollars more that shipping the other one for repair/replacement would have been.
