Help - filter cartridges for whisper 20

No need to replace the cartridge just swish it in a bucket of tank water to remove the build up. You don't want to throw them out because they contain a large amount of the nitrifying bacteria.
Have you considered making your own filter inserts? That way they last longer and are cheaper.
 
The whisper 20 uses the large size. While it's very helpful to keep using the same one, eventually the material wears out and tears. Some people have to buy new. When you do use a new one though, cut your old one in half so you still have one thickness of the old filter and place it either inside, behind, or under your new one to help seed the new one with bacteria.
 
Not sure... I'd leave it a few weeks, maybe a month. I leave mine until I have to rinse out the new filter which is every 2 weeks or so. I'm not the most religious about sticking to a schedule for tank cleaning.
