fishmonkey hears surf in the shell
one of the things when you get a new HOB filter is air bubbles. they get trapped in there, but they dissapate after a day or two. the tank's water level might also not be high enough.

Well, If you want it quiet, i would add a bit of filter floss to the part where its noisy. The floss turns into a pathway of complete silence.
