Lightbulb HOB filter media

I have two penguin HOBs and am running carbon in them but would like to add other filter media, any suggestions?

I buy filter pad and cut to size. You'll find a host of how to make your own with a simple google search. I have aquaclears and just use the sponge and the biomax.
