Yes. How much it sticks up depends on the manufacturer. Mine (AquaC Remora) doesn't stick up much more than my lighting.

CPR bakpak2 sticks up about 5 inches over the top of the tank. Not any higher than my PC lighting setup.

My octopus sticks up about 4-5 inches above my tank but my canopy hides it very well
