I have a 55g tank with a matching hood. It was used and the light dosen't turn on. How can I tell whether I need a new bulb or even a new hood? Everything else that came with the tank worked fine but I don't want to just assume it's the bulb and have to go buy a new hood anyway.

Also how do you get the bulb out of the hood? lol I don't want to keep pulling and twisting it.

It should twist 90degrees or so and then pull out. As far as telling if you need a new buld, burnt out bulbs are generally dark towards the ends. You may need a new "starter" as well, that the little cylinder towards the middle that also twists out.

If you have LFS with people that know a lot about aquariums, then you may want to take the hood to them and they might be able to figure out whats bad.
