How big of a heater for a 50 gallon tank? (200w/300w?)

I am looking at the Fluval E series. 200w or 300w. Supposedly 200w is good enough. Supposedly.

It's only $3 more for the 300w.

But can a heater be too big?

Which should I get?

Heating Question

Good morning Gnarls...

I think larger tanks are more evenly heated with two smaller heaters placed at opposite ends of the tank.

I have a couple of 150 watt heaters in my 55 G tank and that keeps the water at a pretty constant 76 degrees.

B

I would agree with BBradbury two 150's on opposite ends.
I have one large 250 I think but if I had it to do again or as I get a lttle more money I will go with the dual. Even heating and forbid one goes down.

Thanks guys. I bought a 200 watt titanium and that will do me until winter. If I need two I'll grab another.

I decided NOT to get the Fluval. Saw way too many nagatives. Plus, I started thinking, what the h*** do I care if it is too hot or too cold, just take care of it (the thermometer warns you which means it ain't working!). LOL
