I have been using Vinegar but it is not getting all of it off.. any other suggestions? my goal is to have the tank filled with water by the end of Nov and my fish transferred by Jan 1 and I still need to finish the stand

You can use a blade to scrape if it's not near the silicone part of the tank. After that- just let everything soak overnight in a high concentrated level of vinegar and water.

Yep... Vinegar and razor blades are awesome for hard things like mineral deposits and coraline algae. Some people get paper towels wet with vinegar and lay it on the area that has the build up overnight... I did it the tough way with sponges and elbow grease.
